What the Trinity is NOT
Modalism (Sabellianism)
The belief that God is one Person who manifests Himself in three ways: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This can be seen in two ways: The Father is the God of the Old Testament, Jesus is the God of the New Testament times, and the Holy Spirit is the God of the Church Age. It can also be the one God Who shows Himself in three ways, The Father creator, the Son and Savior, and the Holy Spirit Who fills us.
This belief is currently held by such cults as the United Pentacostal Church, the United Apostolic Church, and the Oneness Movement who believe that only Jesus is God and He relates to us at times as the Father or the Holy Spirit.
Tritheism
This is the belief that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three separate Gods. This belief is held by the Mormons
Dynamic Monarchianism (Arianism)
This is the belief that only the Father is God. The Son is a creation. Usually, the Person of the Holy Spirit is not addressed. This belief is held by Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christadelphians, and Unitarians.
