The Faithful and Discreet Slave is identified in Matt. 24:45
“Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time? (Matthew 24:45 NWT, WTBTS, 2013)
So, just who is this Faithful and Discreet Slave Jesus talks about who is supposed to give us our food at the proper time?
Early on, the Watchtower organization taught their magazine was:
We are most firmly convinced that the Watch Tower [Zion’s Watch Tower magazine] is and has been a chosen vessel in the Lords hands for dispensing “meat in due season” . . . . (Zion’s Watch Tower, WTBTS, January 1890, p. 1171)
In 1959, it was the organization, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society:
Although today the Greater Noah, Jesus Christ, is not visibly present, God’s people are not left without visible direction. The facts show that Christ has a composite “faithful and discreet slave,” the remaining ones of the body of Christ, to represent him. This slave serves as God’s channel of communication. To act consistently with our baptism for life and into the Greater Noah we must submit to and cooperate with that slave and its legal instrument, the Watch Tower Society. (WT 10/1/59 WTBTS, p. 583)
Briefly in 1977, the Watchtower taught the Faithful and Discreet Slave was the individual Jehovah’s Witness:
The King Jesus Christ detests lukewarm service, halfhearted attention. He wants no hypocrites in his kingdom. Ths Vital point is emphasized by Jesus Christ in the illustrations of the “faithful and discreet slave” and “that evil slave,” the illustrations that he gave right after urging his disciples to ‘prove themselves ready’ at all times. (Matthew 24:45-51). There is a grand reward reserved for Christs disciples who prove themselves to be faithful, discreet and loving slaves of his, uncrompromisingly devoted to his handling of the promised world government. (Our Incoming World Government — God’s Kingdom, WTBTS, 1977, p. 158-159)
Today, it is the Governing Body of that organization:
Who, then, is the faithful and discreet slave? In keeping with Jesus’ pattern of feeding many through the hands of a few, that slave is made up of a small group of anointed brothers who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food during Christ’s presence. Throughout the last days, the anointed brothers who make up the faithful slave have served together at headquarters. In recent decades, that slave has been closely identified with the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Note, however, that the word “slave” in Jesus’ illustration is singular, indicating that this is a composite slave. The decisions of the Governing Body are thus made collectively.
